Introduction

The art of translation

Translating means expressing in a language what was previously exposed in another language. 

Immersed in a world leaning towards a supposed and inexorable globalization (fashionable term par excellence), in the near future all human beings will become potential translators, because it only requires the knowledge of two languages to a greater or lesser extent.

However, there exists a remarkable difference between potential and professional translators.

Among the first ones might be included those people who have a sufficient lexical and grammar background to be successfull in habitual situations of life, and even the electronic ones, those "translators" we can find on Internet and which could allow a possible communication between people from different languages (like a love letter sent by an English boy to one Russian girl - although with the electronic translator, the meaning could be a bit distorted).

As its own name indicates, the professional translators are dedicated to translation as working activity, but that’s not enough; thus, being professional translator is not synonymous with doing quality jobs.

What, then, would characterize a good professional translator?

In our opinion, a good professional translator should have to fulfill the following requirements:

1. Academic background

This aspect is indispensable in our opinion. The good professional translator must have a sufficient academic background and to dominate the rules of the languages which he works with. Here we’re talking about the grammar, spelling and style among others.

2. Responsibility

This is an important aspect for all situations of life. In the field of translation, a good professional must be consistent with his words, to safeguard the received information from his clients, must be honest and fair in his work...
We assigned the delivery times the maximum of importance; in fact, we do not invoice the jobs we can’t deliver in the stipulated time. 

3. Experience

In our opinion, experience is the cornerstone of life. It is not easy to stand out in any matter or area of knowledge without experience.
The good professional translator does not obtain his maximum yields when he finishes the university degree and begins to practice his profession. He has to know the necessary techniques, to commit inevitable errors, and to correct them. All of them require time, and a number of years of experience in translation.

4. Culture

Culture is indelibly associated with experience. The experienced professional translator is a person located in the world, has to have a certain cultural wealth, to know numerous matters, different expressions, to mix up different forms of thought..., in short, he should know practically everything).

5. Tecnical tools

Here we include computing support and connection to Internet, as well as translation programs and other media to produce guaranteed results.
 

We understand translation as an art, a form to include/understand behavior guidelines reflected in a text and to extrapolate it into another language, to extract meanings and to expose them appropriately in the target language.
